Make a Restaurant, Project 3: Resturant Sign & Set Up

This is #3 of three projects that lead up to the actual event of the restaurant -- dining out -- which can be snack time or lunch.

Objectives

Children are able to color in large designated areas, help to rearrange furniture into a restaurant atmosphere, and participate in a group activity with a common goal. Children ages 4-5 can draw meaningful pictures FM III

Materials

Butcher paper; felt markers or paints; table service; napkins; table cloths or place mats; patio candles (1 per table, optional); vases for flowers; pencils or crayons for each table.

Procedures

1. After the name of the restaurant is chosen print it out in large block letters on a piece of butcher paper. Let children color or print in the letters and decorate the sign. Hang the sign in a prominent place.

2. Rearrange the room so that the restaurant has its own entrance and exit. If possible, cover the windows and dim the lights.

3. Decorate the tables with fresh flowers or greenery picked from around the yard. A candle on each table adds a touch of class. Have the children set the tables with table cloths, placemats, napkins, and other necessary utensils. Place a few pencils and crayons on each table for children to use in recording their orders.
