Making Instruments: Cup Shakers
Children finish their
shakers quickly and get on to the rhythm games and sound discrimination. For
movers and shakers.
Objectives
Children ages 4-5 can draw meaningful designs FM II
ages 2-2 ½ years can fill containers with mixtures FM I
and ages 1 ½-2 are able to make simple drawing strokes FM III
Materials
Styrofoam cups;
masking tape; felt tip pens; bowl full of macaroni; beans and rice mixed.
Procedures
1. Have children seated at a table with the materials. Give each
child one cup and show them your cup half filled with a mixture of rice,
macaroni and beans. Ask them to fill their cups half full.
2. Give the children another cup and show them how to put the two cups
together, taping up and down in 3 or more places around the cups. After the
cups are taped together fairly well, show children how to put tape around the
seam between the two cups (the circumference).
3. Decorate the cups with felt pens.
4. SING! Shake your shakers!
