Color Hunt
A matching game with
lots of chances to move around.
Objectives
Children ages 5-6 can write the letters of name FM III
ages 4-5 can name and match three primary colors—red, yellow, and blue Lang. IB
and ages 3-4 can count objects by pointing to each Cog. IIIC
and they can group consistently by one attribute and tells why Cog. IIIA
Materials
Envelopes, felt pens,
different colored gummed circles.
Procedures
1. With children sitting in a circle on the floor, hand each
child an envelope on which to write his or her name. When teacher/child calls
out a color, children dash (crawl, tiptoe, slither, sneak, etc.) to find an
object in the room of the same color. For the younger children, hold up a color
card to help them find objects of matching colors.
2. When child finds an objects and calls out "a blue bowl!" he
collects a blue gummed circle to be put in the envelope. One child can call out
the colors and hand out color "tokens" as the hunters find objects.
3. Repeat procedure using different colors.
4. Children can do whatever they wish with envelopes full of circles. Variations1. Change attributes. Have children find: objects of a particular shape; objects whith begin with a certain sound; objects made of wood or plastic or glass; objects that open; etc..
2. Forget the envelopes. Children could lick and stick circles on their bodies, on pictures, etc. as they get them. |
