Story Dictation
This curriculum's own version
of the TAT (Thematic Apperception Test), except that no profound clinical interpretations are required.
Objectives
Children ages 4 ½-5 years can tell a story Lang. IIA
and children 4-5 can “read” the pictures Lang. IB
Children ages 1 ½-2 years can name things seen in the pictures Lang. IB
and ages 1-1 ½ can repeat names of objects seen in the pictures Lang. IB
All children participating can listen to the tape recorder and points to self
when heard Lang. IA
Materials
Action pictures cut
from cartoon magazines; tape recorder
Procedures
1. Have children sit around table with tape recorder going in
center. Let each child, in turn, choose a picture and describe what is
happening in it. Ask, "What happened before? What will happen next?"
Younger children may be asked to name the objects in the picture or repeat the
names after you.
2. Play back tape and have children guess whose voice they are hearing. Place
the pictures in the middle of the table or prop up along a ledge. Have the children
guess which picture is being described on the tape.
